Lemongrass

Lemongrass is unsurprisingly a type of grass known for its gentle lemon-like aroma. It is used commonly in herbal teas, and cooking.

The bottom 4 inches of the stalks of the lemon grass are used to flavour soups, stir fry’s, curry.  Remove the stalks if possible after cooking as they can become woody.  They will produce a gingery, lemony flavour.

Care: Best grown in moist, well drained soil in a sunny position. Water well and protect from cold weather.

In Brazilian folk medicine, lemongrass is brewed into teas to help relieve anxiety. Some countries in the Caribbean use lemongrass tea to bolster their immune systems.

If tea isn’t your thing, lemongrass oil is used in beekeeping to mimic the pheromone given off by the queen bee in a honeybee colony to attract the bees to swarm or to a hive.
